OneJustice is proud to announce the recipients of our 2025 Champions of Justice Award: Disability Rights California, Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area, Public Counsel, Crowell & Moring, Hanson Bridgett, Human Rights First, and Munger, Tolles & Olson.
Each year, OneJustice honors individuals and organizations from across California who are breaking down barriers to justice, creating new approaches to legal aid, and expanding equity throughout the legal services sector. Our Champions of Justice represent the diverse efforts and partnerships—nonprofit leaders, pro bono attorneys, corporations, government agencies, and community advocates—working together to reimagine what access to justice can look like.
We invite you to join us in celebrating these outstanding honorees at our Opening Doors to Justice event on June 12, 2025, at The Battery in San Francisco.
Learn more about the awardees:
For over four decades, Disability Rights California has been a powerful force for change—fighting to protect and expand the rights of people with disabilities across education, employment, health care, safety, and independent living. Today, it stands as the largest disability rights organization in the nation.
We’re also proud to share a meaningful connection:
17 leaders from Disability Rights California have graduated from OneJustice’s Executive Fellowship Program, helping shape the future of justice in California.
Human Rights First and Munger, Tolles & Olson
For over a decade, Munger, Tolles & Olson and Human Rights First have worked together on pro bono immigration cases, securing life-changing relief for individuals fleeing persecution.
Since 2017, their joint efforts have focused on supporting asylum seekers—especially LGBTQIA+ individuals and human rights defenders—from all over the world. From victories in Immigration Court to successful appeals, this partnership has delivered hope and safety to those most at risk.
LEAD Initiative: Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area, Public Counsel, Crowell & Moring LLP, and Hanson Bridgett LLP
OneJustice is proud to honor LCCR-SF, Public Counsel, Crowell & Moring LLP, and Hanson Bridgett LLP for their work on the Legal Education and Advocacy for Racial Justice Initiative (LEAD).
The LEAD Initiative was launched to help nonprofits and funders navigate legal uncertainty after the Students for Fair Admissions decision. Through legal training, resources, and direct support, LEAD empowers organizations to continue race-conscious work with clarity and confidence. In its first year, LEAD trained over 220 groups, supported 30+ nonprofits with legal counsel, and built a widely used legal resource hub.
This collective effort—powered by our awardees—has helped nonprofits serving diverse communities reduce legal risk and stay grounded in their equity missions. LEAD is now a vital tool in protecting racial justice work across California and beyond.
