Programs/Services:

We serve detained and non-detained asylum seekers from Africa and members of the LGBTQ community from any country who are in removal proceedings.  We provide direct representation in their court proceedings and also apply for their work permits, adjustment of status, TPS, and appeals to BIA and 9th circuit.  We also provide case management services for health care, DMC, Social Security, education, employment and housing resources.  Our Whole Health program has also collaborated with local agencies that have provided our clients with prosthetics, mental health support, medical and psychological forensic evaluations and other necessary life benefits.

Ideal Candidate:

Anyone who is passionate about immigrants and helping those fleeing torture in their home country due to their protected classifications such as : Race, ethnicity, religion, political opinion or Membership in a Particular Social Group such as LGBTQ, minority clan, female, etc.

We need someone with fundraising experience or governance experience.

It would be wonderful to have someone from an African Country or a member of the LGBTQ community.

Why you should consider joining this board:

If you are at all upset or don’t agree with what is happening in our country against immigrants and feel it’s time you get involved and do something positive, this is the board for you! We only meet every two months and most meetings are on zoom.

Our board has been together since the start of this organization, and we feel that it is time to expand and get some new blood to get us re-energized.  We would like to put on an annual event but none of us have the time to dedicate to this so that is one thing that would be priority if you have fundraising or event planning skills.  We also are in the process of getting a Board Policy manual together and get our governance more in order.  So, even though we have been around for over 10 years, we are relatively new in planning structure for the board.  Because we are so small we haven’t really the headcount to have committees yet and would like to take that next step.

Fundraising/Financial Commitment:

Any is appreciated but not mandatory.
