Designing Tech-Driven Pro Bono Training: Reflections from the LSC Innovations in Technology Conference

OneJustice’s Program Director, Patrick Fodell, presented at the 26th Annual LSC Innovations in Technology Conference, alongside Judy Hale of the Pennsylvania Bar Association.

In their highly interactive session, “Designing Tech-Driven Case Studies and Role Plays for Pro Bono Volunteers,” they focused on how technology can enhance interactive case studies and role-playing exercises—both online and in person—to better mirror real-world client scenarios.

During the session, Patrick and Judy walked participants through concrete strategies for building immersive, learner-centered training experiences. Attendees explored how thoughtfully integrated technology can increase engagement, deepen understanding, and help pro bono volunteers build the confidence and skills they need before stepping into client-facing roles. The session emphasized practicality, ensuring participants left with tools and approaches they could immediately adapt within their own organizations.

OneJustice Program Director, Robert White, reflected on the experience, noting that the conference “offered valuable space to exchange ideas on how technology can strengthen access to justice and better support the communities we serve, using live demonstrations of technology as well as case studies.”
