Join OneJustice and Nixon Peabody on January 30th for one-hour of competency credit MCLE training on “The Mindful Practice of Law,” a Yoga Class, and time for networking. Proceeds benefit OneJustice; free for all staff working at legal services nonprofits.

Lawyers must have more than technical skills to properly represent their clients; they must also possess the mental and emotional abilities to competently practice law. Recent studies indicate that lawyers struggle with substance-use and mental health issues at levels substantially above the general population. In addition, lawyers who work closely with clients that are struggling with trauma or related issues are vulnerable to developing their own secondary traumatic stress disorder. This program will discuss ways to detect the mental and emotional issues, including depression, addiction and secondary traumatic stress, and will explore how to use meditation, mindfulness and yoga as tools to combat the unique pressures of practicing law.

Following the seminar, a 45-minute gentle yoga and meditation class will be led by Jennifer Cormano, who is also a yoga instructor. Please feel free to bring a personal towel and yoga mat if you have one; additional mats will be available for anyone in need. Restrooms are available for anyone who wishes to change into their yoga attire.

All proceeds from this evening of learning, networking, and self-care will benefit OneJustice and their work to increase access to justice and transform the legal aid sector.
