Our Consulting Helps to Increase Access to Justice
We aim to strengthen California’s legal aid sector by providing robust and individualized consulting and technical assistance to legal nonprofits throughout the state. This work expands the capacity of legal services organizations to serve low-income Californians and reduce the justice gap.
Our Unique Focus on Legal Services Organizations
We have developed expertise in nonprofit management priorities facing legal services organizations in California. We understand that legal nonprofits face overwhelming demand for their services. This can leave little time to focus on the business side of managing a nonprofit corporation, including governance, fundraising, human resources, and finance. We offer experience, skills, and resources needed to thrive in today’s complex and competitive nonprofit environment.
Our approach to nonprofit management is through a lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion best practices. We strive to incorporate these values into every project we touch.

Testimonials
We help boards of directors to evaluate their strengths and areas for growth. This can include a deep self-assessment and trainings on the fiduciary duties and fundamental responsibilities of legal aid boards.
We provide tailored training and coaching programs to help support effective management at all levels in the organization, covering topics such budgeting, grants management and supervision. We also help facilitate workshops and retreats to help program teams set their vision, problem solve and learn strategies for managing conflict.
We help boards evaluate their support for, expectations of, and communication with the organization’s executive. Additionally, we help executives and boards to structure a formal evaluation process that is thorough and mutually supportive. We are also planning to pilot a new offering to help organizations prepare for executive transitions through succession planning.
We guide organizations as they determine their future priorities and strategies. This includes gathering feedback from stakeholders, facilitating data-driven working groups, assessing the organization’s financial health, and leading a retreat for the board to set the organization’s direction.
We work with program teams to help develop processes for planning and evaluating legal services, covering topics such as goal setting, service design, documentation and data collection. We also help facilitate meetings and partnership working between multiple agencies working on collaborative projects and grants.
