Congratulations to the last facebook contest winner, Steven Schulman, Partner at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld who leads the firm’s worldwide pro bono practice. In the last contest, we asked folks to guess the secret identity of a VIP Justice Bus guest in our office. The guest was the Chief Justice of the Yurok Tribal Court, who was in our office to start planning the January 2013 Justice Bus trip to serve 400 veterans who are members of the Yurok Tribe and are facing legal barriers to benefits and medical care. Living in Del Norte and Humboldt counties, they are over 300 miles away from the closest nonprofit legal organization that can help.
Steven guessed both “Justice Sandra Day O’Connor” and “Cookie Monster” – winning hands down for both accuracy and creativity! Congrats Steven – enjoy that water bottle!

One of my favorite quotes of all time: “Beware of a half truth; it may be the wrong half”. I’m told this is an old Danish proverb.
“It is in justice that the ordering of society is centered” Aristotle.
Our world sometimes seems more than a little off center. Justice, actively pursued, will get us back on the right course.
It’s a well-known quote, but one that I think about a lot in our work: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” Martin Luther King, Jr.
